GLORY GLORY MANCHESTER UNITED PART-2

Sir Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox arrived from Aberdeen on the day of Atkinson's dismissal. Things didn`t take o ff well for the first three years ending with a 11th place,2nd place and 11th place finishes. In 1990 the victory over Crystal Palace in the final was the beginning of something for Sir Alex. The following season Manchester United tasted European under Sir Alex as Manchester United claimed its first Cup Winners' Cup title and beat Red Star Belgrade 1-0 in the UEFA Super Cup finals to clinch the trophy at Old Trafford. From this point there was no looking back for Old Trafford as it was back to its glory days. With this enormous momentum the Red Devils won the league title in 1993, their first since 1967 and a year later Manchester United won a historic double the first in its history as they clinched both the FA Cup and the League title. In 1996-97 season history repeated itself with one game to spare. Now with the double completed it was treble time. The 1998-99 season is the most, memorable season for whole of Manchester united squad, fans and fellow footballers. This very season Manchester United Completed the Historic treble- a feat which is celebrated even today. Manchester United became the first team to win the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in the same season. The Premier League and FA Cup titles weren`t the ones which raised eyebrows and widened eyeballs of the footballing world. It was the historic match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final. After Bayern were 1-0 up and it was 90min at the clock almost everyone thought everything was over except the players on the pitch and the fans. Seems like Sir Alex told his players, “At the end of the game, you are going to be six feet away from that trophy, that’s the closest most of you will ever get to it. Don`t dare come back here without giving 100%.” Prayers awaited a miracle. And God did show some mercy to the Red Devils this time. Teddy Sheringham scored to equalize in Fergie Time (90+1) from a David Beckham corner. Hope was regained. The Next David Beckham Corner did the miracle. The super sub and the current Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer hit the ball to the
roof of the goal to start the celebrations.  Crowd was going mad, Bayern players were shattered no one could believe it except a few. Players felt it was the best game of their career. This European Night is the most memorable of all time. Following this trophy to Old Trafford was the Intercontinental Cup trophy. And Sir Alex Ferguson was subsequently knighted for his services to football. After this the club started winning trophies in a flow. Manchester United won the league again in the 1999–2000 and 2000–01 seasons. They regained the title in 2002-03. And it took Arsenal to go invincible next season to prevent the Red Devils stealing the trophy again. However they won the FA Cup that year which was the beginning of a new Cristiano Ronaldo. In the 2005–06 season, Manchester United failed to qualify for the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over a decade, but recovered to secure a second-place league finish and victory over Wigan Athletic in the 2006 Football League Cup Final after few big money signings including future club captain Nemanja Vidic . Two years later, Man Utd won the Champions league again in a dramatic match against league rivals Chelsea. Ronaldo who was prolific that season opened the scoring before Frank Lampard equalized. Then it all came down to the dreaded penalty shootout. Fans were at the end of their seats biting their nails sweating and shedding tears, then John Terry missed the penalty and the Red Devils won 6-5 on penalties to lift the trophy after a decade. It was another memorable European Night. Ryan Giggs marked his 759th appearance for the club with a trophy. This won Ronaldo the Ballon D`Or. In December 2008, the club won the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup and followed this with the 2008–09 Football League Cup, and its third successive Premier League title. And Ronaldo was sold to Real Madrid for then record £80 million. But Sir Alex made new additions and built a new looking squad which After finishing as runner-up to Chelsea and Barcelona in the 2009–10 season in the league and Champions League respectively, achieved a record 19th league title in 2010–11. On 28th August 2011, the Red Devils humiliated Arsenal with an 8-2 win which included an Ashley Young hat-trick. This was extended to 20 league titles in 2012–13. The likes of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney were phenomal. And this was the end of Fergie time. Sir Alex Ferguson retired after a thrilling 5-5 draw against West Brom alongside club legend Paul Scholes with 38 major trophies. But Old Trafford didn`t know that Winter was coming.  Read Part 3

(Consider this an open letter to men (also women) around the world irrespective of what your age or ideologies are, be it socially liberal or conservative, feminist or not. I write this piece to appeal to a diverse audience with diverse beliefs on what being a man really means. I seek to appeal to the logic and conscience of individuals which are inherent irrespective of how conservative you are, without wanting to antagonize anyone for their opinions. So sit back, relax and give it a read! ) In the tapestry of existence, there lies an irony so profound that it casts a shadow upon our collective consciousness. It is the irony of choice. We don't choose to be born a man or a woman, rich or poor We didn't choose to grow up hating each other for the colour of our skin or our gender. Hell, we definitely ...

To Buy Or Not To Buy?

Introduction Oil: The one thing that fuels and greases the global economic machine, the black gold for which countries will go to war, claiming to uncover deadly weaponry (you know who) and yet again a centrepiece in igniting a debate over India`s bilateral relations with Russia.  There has been growing pressure on India from the West to condemn formally and explicitly, (or rather to pick a side) Putin`s ideological war on Ukraine. India however has stuck to its roots of non-alignment, testament to which has been its 11 abstentions at UN motions that are critical of the invasion. Further, much to the Wild Wild West`s dismay, India continues to purchase arms and oil from Russia in large quantities. While casualties rise as the war prolongs and countries opting to choose peace to resolve the conflict seem bleak, the question posed to Indian diplomats remains the same - Should India continue buying Oil from Russia while its onslaught on Ukraine continues? The answer is yes: Wha...

Falling Through the Fractured Systems The Struggle for Mental Health Support   TRIGGER WARNING: While I have refrained using any graphic language and moderated the content to be reader friendly there are a couple of suicide helplines and descriptions of mental health issues which might be triggering. Consider if you are in the right frame of mind personally before reading this . Introduction Very often we find ourselves stepping into the shadows of this realm where our cries for help reverberate off the walls of indifference and our emergent needs are met with crushing inefficiency. This article aims to ...
