Many of you aren't aware about Ganesh the kid- the kid who loved and still loves cars more than anything- the kid who had a whole room, whose perimeter was lined up neatly with cars ranging from a garbage truck to a sophisticated set of Lightning McQueen and race tracks, which though not Monza level good, was hotwheels level good.
The one car which stood out amidst what I would call the most expensive car park owned by a 4-6 year old, was a bright red Ferrari F40.
What followed was a “Hmmmmmm……” hum which slowly increases in intensity as I imagine the car going faster, the sudden pauses in between to signal the change of gears, “SCREEECH” for the sudden breaking, and for a brief moment there , a slight “WOAHHOO”- which meant the car was FLYING
Now , I know that rear “wings” dont actually make cars fly, but hey, mine did, as I imagined driving that Ferrari so fast that suddenly it took off and started flying like cars sometimes do in the movies.
A Ferrari Fan was born that day in the streets of Chennai - lol
What does Ferrari really mean to me?
A cheesy, dramatic answer to this would be “everything”
My answer however, is best summarized by one word “passione”
To quote Michael Schumacher - “Once something is a passion, motivation is there”
If I close my eyes, instead of absolute darkness, I see the majestic prancing horse,
Even if my ears are shut, I can hear its neigh sounding like a cry of a warrior ,
I can feel its energy on the race track, its desire to win, my heart beat echoes its every gallop as if they are the same
Mio amico, This is what Ferrari means to me and the rest of the Tifosi.
My craze for Ferrari grew, as I listened to stories and watched clips of Michael Schumacher the GOAT
But on the contrary, when I did start slowly following Formula 1 sometime in 2018- we weren't actually challenging for the Championship and would in fact go onto have the worst couple of seasons ever in 2020 and 2021 - both seasons without a single win, and without a championship since Iceman Kimi stood tall on the Everest of Racing in 2007.
However, Charles kept it special with wins like in Monza and Carlos kept it smooth with his operations in Monaco.
My friends know more than anyone how much I moan on and on about such things and use that to perfection to pull my leg.
But this season my boi Charles has given me hope;
Trust me as much as I want to be that Hawkeye meme saying “Dont give me hope” - this season has something special about it
The Championship is still young and if anything teams I support do when they are backed against the wall, it is that they break that goddamn wall down!
One day I hope to be part of the Tifosi in the grandstands of Monza, dressed in my finest Ferrari attire, proudly waving the flag of the prancing horse from left to right, as I witness Charles and Carlos do a 1-2.
Yes I am dreaming- but you know what, from what I have heard, dreams do sometimes come true.
Look, at the end of the day, sports is something that is an amazing avenue to channel our passion, it is a sense of brotherhood and communion in which we could trust, something which inspires us and gives us a reason to keep fighting and keep hoping no matter what.
I found that in racing and I found that in Ferrari- to push every lap of our life, defend every attack from behind our back, and that feeling which can`t be described, when you take the checkered flag which puts you on top of the podium and makes you feel like you are on top of this whole wide world!
Grazie Ragazzi Tuti for giving this a read!
